A color infographic of the Italian education system by age level: from preschool to university. All levels are shown: kindergarten (scuola infanzia, ages 3-6), primary school (scuola primaria, 6-11), lower secondary school (11-14) and upper secondary school (14-19) with its branches - licei, technical and professional institutes, art schools - followed by universities and the AFAM higher arts and music education track. For relocating families it is a handy cheat sheet: the age of the child immediately shows which level and grade to enroll them in. The chart also helps decode the terminology when applying for study visas and the permesso per studio and when reading school paperwork.

How to use it
Find your child on the age scale and identify the level and grade for enrollment - that is the first question a school secretariat will ask. The chart also helps when choosing between a liceo and a technical institute for a teenager. Keep it handy when filing the iscrizione application.
